Rolling Out the Blueprints of Wellness – Helping Our PGI Heroes Stretch Towards a Healthier Tomorrow

On the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day, JLPL proudly joined hands with PGI hospital, Chandigarh, to promote a healthier, more balanced lifestyle – this time, not with buildings, but with breath work, movement, stillness. A day that celebrates inner harmony became even more meaningful through this collaboration.

JLPL donated over 1000 specially crafted blue yoga mats to the doctors and other staff of the hospital, encouraging them to embrace self care through yoga. The event, held at the PGI Hospital Ground in the early hours of Sunday morning, witnessed an inspiring turnout of 3,350 doctors and healthcare professionals, a record breaking participation that surpassed last year’s numbers. This moment marked a growing awareness around mental and physical health among healthcare providers and for us, it was a proud milestone in our journey of community-first initiatives. The event was attended by the Director, Director General (Stats) of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dean (Academic), Dean (Research), Deputy Director, Medical Superintendent, Financial Advisor, faculty, students, staff, and their families. Together, they practiced the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), the flagship initiative of the Ministry of AYUSH, for which the world’s first evidence was generated by PGI.

Dr. Akshay Anand, Professor (In-Charge of CCRYN-CCMBIY), extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, including the Director, Dean (Academic), Dean (Research), Medical Superintendent, Deputy Director, and Financial Advisor. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the participants for turning up in large numbers and contributing to the spirit of the event.

The inauguration commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing wisdom and enlightenment, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER. In his address, Dr. Lal encouraged all students, the faculty, the staff, and their families to adopt yoga as a lifelong practice for holistic health and well-being.

The event featured the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP), actively performed by all attendees. This was followed by a soulful musical yoga performance conducted by CCRYN-CCMBIY, PGIMER, blending harmony and mindfulness.

In recognition of significant contributions to yoga research, two MD/DM scholars — Dr. Balaraja and Dr. Ishita Sood — along with three PhD researchers — Dr. Navneet, Dr. Kanupriya, and Dr. Pooja — were honoured by the Director of PGIMER for their pioneering work in the field.

A notable highlight of the event was the official release of a specialized Yoga Protocol for managing low back pain, adding a practical and evidence-based tool to the growing body of therapeutic yoga practices.

Dressed in dedication and discipline, PGI’s doctors rolled out their new blue mats to practice together, embracing breath work, movement, stillness under the open sky. The sea of blue mats on the green field was more than just a visual spectacle. It was a powerful symbol of wellness, unity and resilience. It stood as a tribute to those who heal others, taking a moment to heal themselves. The atmosphere was one of both serenity and shared strength.

To ensure clear visibility for all attendees, the entire program was broadcasted on four large LED screens strategically placed across the venue. Participants were provided with yoga mats, event T-shirts, and refreshments, enhancing their overall experience and comfort throughout the session.

We at JLPL believe in building not just structures but strong communities. JLPL’s initiatives represent our commitment to wellness in every form, mental, physical, environmental and social.
